Reading: The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner. John and I are working on our "Adventure List," and while we have a general idea of where we want to go, there's nothing like a good book to spark some creativity and wanderlust. I'm 3 chapters in and currently loving it; it's witty, informative, and the former-NPR-reporter author writes really well. I'll need some convincing to add Bhutan to the itinerary but who knows, maybe that's where happiness is?!
Watching: The Bachelorette was on last night, and it's on again tonight...two nights of two hour coverage is a big time commitment, ABC. I'm a busy (read: sleepy) girl - not happy. However, it does provide endless entertainment and live-tweeting is one of my favorite things to do (@allyskeer if you want to follow along!). Also, my friend Taylor and the Betches are my go-to's for hilarious recaps. Right now I'm loving Jordan, James, and Luke and despising Chad, like the majority of the women of America.
Making: John's a big fan of sweet green tea, so I've made it a few times this Spring already. I switched it up today and made Southern Sweet Tea found on Southern Living's list of "21 New Ways to Enjoy Sweet Tea" - one of which include a Mint Julep Sweet Tea recipe. I think I may have to try that one out next - I'm a fan of Mint Juleps and sweet tea, so I imagine they are perfect together. "Making" tea may seem elementary (how hard is it to boil water and add sugar?), but for someone who managed to start her first kitchen fire this year, this is a big step. I need constant positive praise for doing anything in the kitchen.
Using: Lara Casey's PowerSheets are in full use! The spiral-bound year long edition was gifted to me by my friend Kat and I've loved them (and, more amazingly, stuck with them) since January. They're great for setting daily, weekly, and monthly intentions. I keep the page "Tending" page open on the desk so I am constantly reminded of my goals.
Using (again): Our local Sports Authority is going out of business, so I got a Polar H7 Heart Rate Monitor in an attempt to motivate myself. Polar has a free app that tracks your distance, time, heartrate, and calories burned, and it came in handy for our 5 mile run on Saturday! I burned 760 calories and was in the Max heart rate for 30 minutes. Side note - you're only supposed to be in that range for sprint workouts. Not a joke, THAT IS how out of shape I am. My body thought I was trying to sprint. I was doing like 9 or 10 minute miles at best.
If you're in the DC area or take the Metro for work, I am so. sorry. It's a hot mess and I'm thankful I only have to come to the city a few days a week. If you need someone to help you complain in this humid heat together - I'm available, friends.
