Big Changes and Bigger Dreams!

If you had stumbled across this blog a year and a half ago, you'd have found blogs on wedding etiquette, table settings, styled shoots, and some of the adventures I had in my short stint as a wedding coordinator. Things have changed!

It's funny, the way that life brings you to where you wanted to be all along. It's not always (ever?) a direct path but it's a fun one, that's for sure. When I studied abroad in Florence, I had a blog dedicated to my travels and how in love I was with the new places I experienced. Heck, I was in love with places I hadn't yet been to! I vowed to come back to Florence, travel as much as possible, and never take for granted the opportunity to travel anywhere and everywhere new.

To start this winding journey to my current state, I decided I wanted to start a wedding planning business in 2014. That business lasted from 2015 - 2016 (RIP!) and although it was a great learning experience, it just wasn't what I thought it would be. And that's okay! I went after a goal, and that goal brought me so many amazing memories, friends, and new opportunities! I joined the Creative at Heart team in 2015 which has been such a FUN and rewarding adventure. I found a knack for encouraging others, social media marketing, and coordination of large scale sponsorships. I'm still part of the C@H team and can't wait for Denver in July!

After I realized how great social media marketing was, I started a new role as the social media manager for my absolute favorite boutique called Monkee's of Fredericksburg. I started working at Monkee's as a sales associate the summer after I came back from Italy (5 whole years ago!), and continued to work on weekends throughout college, after graduation, and up until earlier this year! I just love the environment so much, but I knew that I couldn't keep working weekends forever! After talking with the owner about my strengths, weaknesses, and the ideas I had for the store, my role shifted from sales associate to social media manager/virtual assistant!

I've continued to work at Booz Allen this whole time (and I earned a promotion!), which has been such a blessing. The 9-5 life isn't always glamorous, but it's enabled me to try my hand at entrepreneurship, travel to a few new places with John, and has helped us pay off a massive amount of debt (more to go, but focusing on the positives!).

John and I came up with the crazy idea that on January 1st, 2019, we are going to start traveling the world. I've always had a passion for places I've never been, and with my career (hopefully) headed in a virtual direction, I think the stars may be aligning for us. Who knows, maybe this idea is fleeting. Maybe this is a product of the quarter-life crisis (amen, y'all). But maybe it will stick, and in two and half years, I'll be saying "I can't believe this is really happening." There's got to be more to life than working for 40 years and then retiring, right? We mapped out a plan (more to come on that), came up with some good solutions for paying down debt (hello, extra jobs and selling things!), and we are starting this journey!

Have you traveled the world? Do you have plans to?
